Budget: What people in Cardiff want

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt will set out the budget this Wednesday. He’s expected to introduce tax cuts to ease the burden of the cost of living.

But what changes do people in Cardiff want to see?

Andy Smart, accountant

“There’s so much more you could do for poorer people in society through the budget. I’d like to see the personal allowance extended so that people don’t start paying tax until a higher level.”

Matthew Shepard, consultant

“It’s not going to benefit anyone. The aim of the budget is to get people to vote. Whether or not they do it is another thing.”

Emily Lewis, Chef, Six By Nico

“Rather than just putting money into the industry, I think it needs to be made more of a long-term job aspect and more attractive to people because a lot of people view hospitality as a little part-time thing.

“I think [they should create] apprenticeships or put money more into training people up and making it more enticing to come and work in a restaurant, because it is very fun.”

Russel Milton, Manager, Kellys Records

“I’d like to see improvements to the infrastructure of especially rail travel, things like that for when you’ve got larger events, obviously things like the Six Nations.”
