Extinction Rebellion protesters call for boycott of Barclays Bank

Words, pictures and video by Tom Davies

A group of Extinction Rebellion (XR) members gathered outside Barclays bank in central Cardiff today to protest Barclays bank funding of environmentally damaging companies.

XR help posters that read “Barclays is the worst polluting bank in Europe”, to draw the public attention to the bank using peoples savings to invest more money into the fossil fuel industry than any other bank in Europe.

  1. Well done everyone! Do you know that you don’t have to bank with Barclays to be contributing to its environmental damage? If you are a UK tax payer, you pay your tax to HMRC and guess where they put your money?? Yes, straight into a Barclays account, so desperately need to press the government to make HMRC uses a different, non-fossil fuel supporting bank! (Or perhaps, if we pay the tax ourselves, rather than via an employer, we should refuse to pay)
