Cardiff, Wales. March 12th 2020. As the number of coronavirus cases rise throughout the UK, members of the public have begun panic buying essentials in bulk, including toilet roll, pasta and handwash, leaving many shelves empty. Due to this, stores are now having to limit the number of items that people can buy. Pictured is the empty shelves in Tesco’s and Sainsburys on Albany road in Cardiff. As of today, there have been 596 confirmed cases across the UK, and 10 deaths. On Thursday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK will move to the delay phase of its plan to tackle the virus – “We are considering banning major public events like sporting fixtures”, despite many countries having already banned indoor meetings of over 100 and outdoor meetings of over 500 people and closures of all universities and schools.
