The money came from a series of events, including sales, a raffle and a takeover of a Cardiff cafe.

It was an idea born at a Saturday morning meeting of a group of refugees and migrants, including people from the countries affected. They lost family and friends in the disaster last month.

As well as raising money the aim of the event was to highlight the effects of the earthquake and its impact on people who included students from the University of South Wales.

The winner of the raffle are Photojournalism student Reece H. Strati, lecturers Geraint Thomas and Inga Burrows.

They won a variety of prizes from local companies who donated generous vouchers and gift cards, including The Grazing Shed, Ffwrnes, Kelly’s Records, Tukka Tuk, The Underdog, The Bagel Place and more.
