Cardiff Metropolitan University hosted a repair cafe on the Llandaff campus today. It offered free repairs for household items, electricals and textiles, as well as bike servicing.
Repair cafés are pop up events held on regular dates where the local community can get their broken household items repaired for free by volunteers. You can watch & learn repair skills at the same time.
One customer, Vivianne Griffiths, brought in a sewing machine from 1962, which she purchased using her first paycheck. With the help from the volunteers at the cafe, the machine was up and running again!
Cycle Training Wales was also there to provide free bike servicing. South Wales Police also gave out free registered security marking for bikes and any other equipment.
Pete Jones, who had his bike serviced said “it was very efficient and useful. I learnt a lot about bike maintenance and would definitely recommend it”.
You can email Sustainability@cardiffmet.ac.uk with any queries or if you would like to volunteer your repair skills. For future repair cafe events, you can visit: https://repaircafewales.org/events/
