Field of Remembrance now open at Cardiff Castle

“There are young people, cadets and others involved in the ceremonies today. And for them, we’ve got to have the hope that those who died have given us for the future.”

The Royal British Legion organised the annual event in memorial of those who have died in conflicts. Crosses affixed with poppies have been laid in the castle grounds.

Dignitaries included the First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford, who did a reading from The Exhortation. Both English and Welsh national anthems were sung along with prayer.

The Royal Welch Fusiliers performed a catalogue of songs accompanied by their regimental goat Llywelyn.

Many of those present were young people, either cadets or a member of the MPTC (Motivational Preparation College for Training. The census of the day was the ceremony not only marks those lost but those yet to serve.
