First Sign-up Figures of Cardiff Young Citizens Panel Released

By Lauren Evans

Twenty four people have signed up to the new initiative that encourages young Cardiff locals to voice their opinion on the services available to them in the first week since its launch.

A Cardiff Council spokesperson said: “There has been a good response – 24 young people but it’s very early days.”

Cardiff Young Citizens Panel offers the chance for people aged 11-25 to get involved from an early age in decision-making and local democracy.

Panel members will share their views by completing surveys and taking part in focus groups, workshops, and forums over the course of a five year period.

They will be asked for their input on various topics like transport, the environment, education, health, housing, major developments and employment opportunities.

Another spokesperson said: “It’s important to get children and young people involved in the process of helping to make decisions and have their voice heard on the issues that they are really passionate about.”
