Continued strike action by Cardiff UCU

CARDIFF, UNITED KINGDOM. MARCH 5TH 2020.

Crowds gathered today at Alexandra Gardens, Cardiff, to take part in a solidarity march. The event was part of two weeks of continued strike action by the Cardiff branch of the University and College Union (UCU) – the representative voice for academic and academic-related staff at Cardiff University.

Cardiff UCU undertake local negotiations on issues such as pay and grading, restructuring
and redundancy; they are committed to stop bullying and harassment in work and they believe employers must make reasonable adjustments so that disabled staff are not substantially disadvantaged as a result of disability.

The strike, which is happening across 74 universities around the United Kingdom, is backing two separate legal disputes, one on pensions and one on pay, casualisation, equality and workloads.

Proposed action by the UCU includes staff working strictly to contract, not covering for absent colleagues and refusing to reschedule lectures lost to strike action.
