A five-metre-tall, 8-metre-long animatronic model T-Rex has been installed at Tacoma Square in Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay.

The model dinosaur is the largest animatronic T-Rex in the UK and is being dubbed the ‘Quay-Rex’.

Between 9am and 8pm each day, the arms, eyes, tail and head move – the prehistoric beast also periodically lets out a terrifying roar.

The head of the ‘reptile’ is level with the terrace restaurants above Tacoma Square.

Mermaid Quay Centre Manager, Simon Whiting, said: “We’re really looking forward to playing host to the enormous Quay-Rex. It will attract visitors not just from the Cardiff area, but way beyond, as well as possibly scaring and surprising a few passers-by. Don’t forget your phones and cameras, you won’t want to miss this!”

The arrival of the model will coincide with special screenings of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World at nearby Everyman Cinema.

The ‘Quay-Rex’ is free for all to see, and will be on display until the 23rd February.
